Michelle Stott of nxo Birmingham has been appointed onto the Regional Board of Sport England, the Government agency responsible for advising, investing and promoting sport to support and encourage an active nation. The goal will be to get two million people more active in sport by 2012 – and to make sure that participation is sustained. Sport England will work with a range of partners to ensure that London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games deliver a lasting sporting legacy. She will be following in the footsteps of Birmingham City FC figurehead Karen Brady, who sat on the committee prior to taking up her seat on the national board. Michelle’s appointment marks a new era in Sport England under chairman Derek Mapp with a focus on developing greater linkages between sport and the corporate community.
Michelle said: "I am delighted to be appointed to the board and am very much looking forward to the challenge ahead. There is tremendous focus on the ‘legacy’ element of the games and it is an honour to be helping to shape how this legacy could look here in the West Midlands."
